Training |
- Use the NetDocuments online Help documentation to learn basic and advanced features of NetDocuments.
Additional training can be provided by NetDocuments experts at a per hour
fee. Contact us using the Support Request page for general or technical questions about the
service. A short training outline, which can be used as a basis for
training end-users, is provided in the Technical Help Resources section of
the Help. You can use it as it is or augment it for designing
training for your staff. On-line training for Administrators and
Trainers can be provided by NetDocuments.

System Tips
Get latest Microsoft operating system and IE updates |
Enable Download signed ActiveX Controls
Enable Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Enable Script ActiveX controls marked
safe for scripting
IE 6.0 - Do not block All Cookies (see Privacy tab)
-
With the alternate ND2
Interface, other devices such as Blackberrys, PalmOS, Windows Mobile, etc.
can be used to access NetDocuments. Because of limitations of some
of these devices not all NetDocuments features are available when using
these devices.

Email
Integration |
- For the Outlook integrations make sure you are using at a minimum Outlook 2000
Service Pack 1. We recommend the newest version of Outlook.
|
|
Screen Resolution |
- NetDocuments is designed for a minimum 800x600 monitor resolution.
A higher monitor resolution is recommended.
|
| Login Page |
- We recommend that you make a browser favorite and use the following
URL to login to the NetDocuments Service [https://vault.netvoyage.com].
The NetDocuments company home page
www.netdocuments.com
can also be used for access to the service, but it is not recommended
since it does not have the same fault tolerance of the direct connection
to the NetDocuments Service. We also recommend to firm administrators
that the link to the vault service be placed on the firm's Intranet where
available.
|
| Echoing |
- We recommend that you use Echoing in locations
such as your office, where you control access to the computer. We
recommend that you do NOT use it
when at other temporary locations such as Client site, kiosks, Cyber
cafes, etc.
|
|
Single Clicking |
- Links and buttons in NetDocuments generally require a single
click as is standard when using a browser.
|
|
Passwords |
- Passwords must be at least 6 characters long.
- Passwords cannot include the username. This is a case insensitive
check. For example, if the username is “jones”, the password cannot be
“jones”, “sJones”, “jonestt”, or “alJonesAc”.
- Passwords cannot be comprised entirely or mostly of the user’s
initials. If all occurrences of a user’s first and last initials or first,
middle, and last initials are removed from the password, there must be at
least 3 remaining characters in the password. For example, if the user’s
name is Albert S. Thompson, the following passwords are not allowed:
“astast”, “atatat”, “batrat”, “atlast”, “lastbat”. The following passwords
would be allowed: “breakfast”, “lastbatter”.
- Passwords cannot include a word in the name of any repository the user
is a member of unless the word is “of”, “the”, or “and” or the word
consists of a single character. For example, members of a repository named
“Jones Real Estate Services” would not be allowed to use the following
passwords: “bridgetjones”, “really”, “quickservices”.
-
8 unsuccessful login attempts will lock an account from
access for 15 minutes. The actual time could be a few minutes longer
because of Internet variances.
- If you forget your password, send an e-mail to
support@netdocuments.com or
at the login page, click on Forgot Your Password?
|
|
"Please Wait" Messages |
- Always wait for “Please wait” messages to complete. They indicate
that the requested process has not completed. If you click ahead, your browser
may
hang and you will need to close the Please wait window. If
this happens, go back and make sure your data is OK and the document you
were accessing was not left in a "Checked out" state.
|
|
Browser "Back" Button |
- Users can access the browser "Back" button at any time to
return to a previous page when using NetDocuments. The "Back" button
is especially useful when you do a View All in a search result, because it
will take you back to the page you were previously working from. The
Print, Refresh, Forward, Stop and Settings (for initial setup for
NetDocuments), are additional browser functions which may need to be used
from time to time. The Ctrl+F function (Edit | Find option in the
browser menu) may be useful when searching for an item in a Search
Results, View All or folder. Most other browser functions are
not used in NetDocuments.
|
|
Document Name Limitations |
- NetDocuments does not support Document names beyond 100 characters.
We recommend using a custom Notes profile field to further describe
documents with no limitations. Because your custom fields are
searchable, this field allows for great flexibility in searching
documents. Folder names are a maximum of 50 characters.
|
|
Closing Your Browser without Clicking Save |
- If you have a document open
for editing and then click the Exit button or choose File|Close within
Internet Explorer, your opened document is protected. The
NetDocuments Active List remains open or
will be opened, listing your checked out documents. The
Active List cannot be closed until you close and check in the document(s). You are
then prompted to login to NetDocuments again, and any documents you
had opened for editing will automatically be checked in. Always
close documents before checking them in via the Active List.
|
|
Using Multiple Browser Sessions |
- If you are logged into NetDocuments in two separate browser windows
only explicitly click Logout after you have closed one
of the browser
windows. The Logout in one browser will cause your other
browser session to lose its active state and your open document will not
save back to NetDocuments correctly. However, you can just
CLOSE the second browser without any problem when you are finished with
it.
|
|
Losing Your Internet Connection |
If you lose your Internet connection or your computer crashes while you are
working on a document, there are easy ways to recover. Read
What to Do When the Internet is Down or Your Computer
Crashes.
