Using Date Fields for Searching

Relative Date Searches

NetDocuments Advanced Search allows relative dates to be entered in the beginning and/or ending date fields for any date attributes, including the creation date, the last modified date, and any custom date fields. Relative dates consist of a leading plus or minus character followed by a number, which refers to the number of days after or before the current date. “+0” and “-0” both refer to the current date. If a negative value is placed in a beginning date field, default +0 in the ending field.

For example, if today's date is April 30, 2003, and you want to find all documents last edited in the past 10 days, you would enter -10 in the "document last edited between" field and +0 or -0 or 0 in the end date. If you do not enter a value in the to field, it will assume a 0. In other words, using this syntax for the Advanced Search criteria:

Document last edited between -10 and +0. This syntax means documents last edited 10 or fewer days prior to today's date and up to today's date. If the +0 had been a -2, then all documents last edited between 10 and 2 days prior to today's date would be found.

Note: When relative dates are included in a Category, the dates are relative to the date the Category is executed, not the date the Category was saved.  This is the recommended method to use when saving Categories that use a date function so they are always current.

Note: When searching Dates in the Advanced Search page, local date formats can be used.
